Walking in the Rain

All you who are thirsty,
come to the water!
Isaiah 55:1 (NABRE)
Yet just as from the heavens
the rain and snow come down
And do not return there
till they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
Giving seed to the one who sows
and bread to the one who eats,
So shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth;
It shall not return to me empty,
but shall do what pleases me,
achieving the end for which I sent it.
Yes, in joy you shall depart,
in peace you shall be brought back;
Mountains and hills shall break out in song before you,
and all the trees of the countryside shall clap their hands.
Isaiah 55:10-12 (NABRE)
As you walk,
- Imagine how the rain nourishes the land
- Imagine the plants and the trees accepting the moisture – see how their leaves glisten in the water
- Smell the dampness in the air
- Imagine the Earth being renewed through its acceptance of rain
Isaiah Chapter 55 calls the people to return from the Babylon – it is a call to return from exile. Connect Isaiah’s call to our desire to receive and respond to God’s grace.
Contemplate: “So shall my word be that goes from my mouth; It shall not return to me empty.” Isaiah 55:11 (NABRE).
As you walk, imagine the rain as God’s grace. How is receiving God’s grace similar to the Earth receiving God’s rain?
